This Sucks
by Erik Schubach

Violet is mostly a vampire, sort of. He neighbor tried to turn her to save her life after a car accident, only, it didn't take. This story follows her through her misadventures of her and her best friend Cindy learning just what kind of cut-rate bloodsucker she really was.

Of course all sorts of hilarity ensues and hamster thralls are made, but Violet winds up finding the happiness and love she had wanted for so long.

About Erik Schubach
I got my start writing romance novels by accident. I have always been drawn to strong female characters in books, like Honor Harrington. And I also believe that there is a lack of LGBT characters in media. So one day I came up with a story idea that combines the two... two days later I completed the manuscript for Music of the Soul.

My writing style may not be the most professional nor grammatically correct, but I never profess to be an English major, just a person that wants to share a story. I maintain that my primary language is sarcasm.

Each of my books features strong likeable female characters that are flawed. I think that flaws and emotional or physical scars make us human and give us more character than simply conforming to some "social norm".

  1. OMG I love the humor in this story, not to mention that Cindy Tanner is the name of one of my SILs! Kudos for the Pac Man shout out with the adorable thralled pets. A story worth waiting for!

    1. I gotta admit I was giggling the whole time I was writing this. Coming up with snarky and irreverent vampire humor. :)

  2. Best title ever. I love reading vampires and for some reason I haven't in a while. Looking forward to reading the rest of this.

    1. I've been burned out on vampires in books, on tv and in movies lately, just like zombies. So I thought I'd so something fun and sarcastic since those terms don't usually apply to vampires. :)

    1. I wanted to do something humorous with vampires and I figured if I giggled myself into a coma writing it, others just might find it entertaining too. :)

  5. I like that Violet is not using her powers to deliberately enthrall Cindy. In fact it seems to be the other way round. Fascinated to know what happens next.

    1. If you read the entire story, then you will find out Violet comes tot he same realization... that she is actually Cindy's thrall, but she likes it. :)

  6. Hi Erik, what a funny idea, a vampire by accident, and a vampire with pets, too. Violet and Cindy will have lots of fun, with Cindy being such a willing and controlling guinea pig. I like how this develops and can’t wait to read the rest of it. Thank you for the story.

    1. I could see the whole thing in my head as I wrote, and imagined little squeaky noises as she ordered them into their cages, like the minions in Despicable Me. :)

  9. What a fun and engaging character. She sounds just like a teenager, too. Interesting kind of vampire--a not-quite-a-vampire, vampire ;-).
